Hi, I’m Cristian Veloso, the founder of SeizeSense. I’m a sophomore in high school with a deep passion for both lacrosse and raising awareness about epilepsy. Balancing my commitment to my school’s lacrosse team with my dedication to SeizeSense has been an incredible journey so far, and I’m excited to see how I can continue to make a difference.
At SeizeSense, we are driven by a powerful mission: to educate, raise awareness, and foster a deeper understanding of epilepsy. Our goal is to normalize the condition and create safer, more supportive environments for individuals living with epilepsy, ensuring that they can feel secure, valued, and empowered—especially in moments when they need it most. We want to make sure that no one with epilepsy ever has to worry about their safety during a seizure, helping them to live with confidence.
I founded SeizeSense because I believe that awareness and education are key to breaking down the stigma around epilepsy. As I continue my journey through high school and beyond, I’m eager to grow SeizeSense into a powerful resource for those affected by epilepsy, so we can make a lasting impact together.
When I was 4, I had my first grand mal seizure during a trip to Europe, which led to my epilepsy diagnosis. Suddenly, my life changed—I had to take 12 pills a day, avoid sports and water activities unless supervised, and visit the hospital twice a year for EEG's. I felt different, self-conscious, and isolated.
Over time, I’ve learned to embrace my epilepsy and see it as a part of who I am, not something that defines me. It’s shaped me in ways I never expected, and today, I turn that experience into something positive, using it to help others who are going through the same challenges.
SeizeSense is a nonprofit founded on the values of inclusivity, support, and resilience. Our mission is to build a community where individuals with epilepsy feel safe, understood, and empowered. We strive to raise awareness, break stigma, and create spaces where everyone—no matter their challenges—can thrive together. Our logo, the phoenix, represents rebirth and strength, reflecting our belief in overcoming obstacles and embracing life’s journey, no matter the setbacks.
At SeizeSense, our dream is to create a world where individuals with epilepsy are fully supported, understood, and celebrated for their unique strengths. We envision a future where every public space, school, and place of business is not only welcoming but also knowledgeable about how to navigate a seizure, ensuring that no one with epilepsy ever feels self-conscious or unsafe. Our mission is to raise awareness and build a community where people with epilepsy can access the care they need, feel confident in who they are, and thrive without fear of judgment or isolation.
